

Daniel James Lauer passed away August 3, 2014 at Emeritus Senior Living from natural causes. Memorial Services will be at 3:00pm, Saturday, August 9th, at the McGilley & Hoge Chapel, 8024 Santa Fe Dr., Overland Park, KS 66204. Visitation will be from 2:00pm to 3:00pm, prior to the service. In lieu of flowers or other contributions, the family requests that contributions be made to the Lauer Endowed Chair at UMKC, 2411 Holmes St, KCMO 64108.
Daniel was born April 11, 1931 in Toledo, Ohio. He was the youngest son of Fred and Albina (Ernst) Lauer. He attended Campion High School, John Carroll University and then received his MD degree from St. Louis University in 1955. He served in the Air Force before completing his residency in Internal Medicine at Kansas City General Hospital in 1960. He then joined St. Luke's Internal Medicine where he worked until his retirement in 1999. He was a dedicated physician who was recognized as one of Kansas City's best internists. After retirement, he enjoyed traveling the world, playing golf and the company of his good friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Albina and his brothers Tom, Robert and John. He is survived by: his beloved sister Carol and brother-in-law Jerry Harms; his children Steve (Carey), Daniel Jr. (Kelley), Mary (Rick Kirkendall), Michael (Betty), David, and Lynn (Paul Corr); their mother Martha; as well as his grandchildren: Brad (Kate), Dana, Tim, Caitlin, Jill, Daniel III, Shea, Joey, Dillon (Alexa), Ryan and Kailey; three great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; as well as his close friends and former patients whom he served.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at Emeritus and Crossroads Hospice who cared for dad during his last days.
