David A. Guillen, 62 of Wellsville, KS passed away peacefully on February 24, 2019, surrounded by family. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. on Friday, March 1, at Holy Name Catholic Church, 1001 Southwest Blvd., Kansas City, KS. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. - 10:45 a.m. and the Rosary at 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to the service. Burial in Resurrection Catholic Cemetery, Lenexa, KS. Contributions may be made to Holy Name Church.
David was born June 9, 1956, in Kansas City, MO. He was raised in Manhattan, KS. He married his sweetheart, Gloria Gomez on October 15, 2011. He is preceded in death by his parents, Joaquin & Sara (Silva) Guillen. David is survived by his beloved wife, Gloria; and two children, daughter, Christina Martin (Matthew) and their children, Victoria, Michael, Azrael, & Violet, and son, Andrew Guillen (Breanna) and their baby, due in July; stepdaughter, Joy Moss (Martin) and their children, Elena and Evan; two brothers, Louis Guillen (Anne) and Steve Guillen (Grace); and sister, Teresa Guillen-Carter; along with many nieces and nephews. David worked as a Union Plumber for Local #8 and he retired on May 1, 2018. Prior to coming to Kansas City, he worked as a plumber in Manhattan, KS. While in Manhattan, he worked at Powell Brothers & Central Mechanical. Because work was low in Manhattan, he came to Kansas City and he would travel back and forth from Manhattan to KC every day. If work was low here, he’d seek out other jobs elsewhere, even if it meant traveling. David traveled to many different states, including Texas, Oklahoma, Rockford, IL, St. Louis, MO, Iowa, and Omaha, NE. In total, he worked 40+ years doing what he enjoyed. David was an avid K-State sports fan. He lived and breathed K-State. The Wildcats were his “Alma mater”. David was loved very much by his Family and outpouring of friends. He clung to his old friends back in Manhattan, but made many new friends here in KC. He loved to dance, and party with friends. In fact, when David met his wife, they met dancing. David had big plans after retiring, but that wasn’t meant to be. God had other plans for David, although he will be missed by many, he will live on through the hearts and memories of all who knew and loved him. Until we meet again.
