Diane Lee Elston

On September 9th, 2023, Diane L. Elston peacefully took her final breath at The Heritage of Overland Park surrounded by family, loved ones, and dedicated caregivers. Diane fought a long and difficult battle with dementia and is finally at rest.

Diane was born on December 10, 1939, to Golden and Lavina Armstrong and was raised on the family farm in Atkins, Iowa. After graduating from Atkins High School, Diane went on to study Fine Arts at Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri. While attending Stephens, she met Roger, whom she wed in 1961.

Following graduation, Roger and Diane moved to St. Louis, Missouri, where Diane worked in advertising for almost a decade before becoming the mother of two boys. Being a wife and mother was one of the most impactful parts of Diane’s life, a role that gave her much pride and joy.

After the family relocated to Overland Park, Kansas in 1974, Diane returned to the workforce, holding several positions in administration. She retired from the Wrennel Group in the late 1990’s. In retirement, Diane greatly enjoyed her home, the company of her neighbors, her ladies’ luncheons, bunko, trips to the casino and playing her grand piano.

Diane was predeceased by her husband, Roger Elston; her two brothers, John (Donna) Armstrong and Robert (Margerie) Armstrong; and her sister, Virginia (Warren) Schulte.

She is survived by her sons, Scot (Ashley) Elston and Chris (Kenzie) Elston; grandchildren, Lunden, Ethan, Charles and Ella of Overland Park, Kansas; niece, Laurie (Jim) Larsen; and nephews, David (Laurie) Armstrong, Brian (Kim) Armstrong, Stephen (Kay) Armstrong, Jim (Laura) Armstrong, Mark (Deborah) Armstrong, Jeff (Allison) Schultz, and Randy (Betty) Schultz.

A visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 pm on Friday, September 22nd at McGilley & Hoge Memorial Chapel, 8024 Santa Fe Drive, Overland Park, KS 66204 and a graveside service on at 10:00 am Saturday, September 23rd at Resurrection Cemetery, 8300 Quivira Road, Lenexa, KS 66215.
