Elizabeth (Betty Jo) Doherty, beloved sister was born July 20, 1944 and left this earth on October 24, 2014. She was the daughter of Edwin H. Doherty Jr. and Jessie Lee Buck who preceded her in death. Her older brother, Edwin H. Doherty III also preceded her in death. She is survived by two brothers, Charles F. Doherty and Paul James Doherty and three sisters, Staci Meek, Mary Lee Schmidbauer, and Kathleen Doherty and most importantly her cat, Seamus.
Betty Jo was full of life. She shared her giving heart as an LPN taking care of the elderly and sick.
Baking and cooking were two of her favorite passions as well as traveling. She traveled to Ireland which was the trip of her dreams. She loved movies and was an avid reader. Later in life her interest turned to painting with oils. She was able to complete one of her bucket list items by learning how to swim. She would go almost daily for exercise at the Olathe YMCA.
She was loved by many and never knew a stranger. Jesus was there to welcome her home.
Life Celebration will be 6-7 pm on Wednesday, October 29th, with Prayer Service at 6pm at McGilley & Hoge Chapel, 8024 Santa Fe Drive, Overland Park, KS 66204. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675.
