Roanna June Huerter, age 88 of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away on Saturday, June 25, 2022 at Brookdale Rosehill, Shawnee, Kansas with her daughters by her side. Visitation will be 9:15 – 10:15 am on Friday, July 1st, 2022 with the Rosary recitation at 10:15 am, followed by the Funeral Mass at 10:30 am at Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 7023 W. 71st Street, Overland Park, Kansas 66204. Burial in Resurrection Cemetery, Lenexa, Kansas.
June was diagnosed with Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension in 2017. She attributed her ability to live with the disease as long as she did to Dr. Mark Yagan and Dr. Taiyeb Khumri of St. Luke’s Hospital, Kansas City, Missouri and to St. Joseph Hospital Pulmonary Rehabilitation. June was born on June 27, 1933 on the family ranch west of Fredonia, Kansas to Vance and Bess (Sloan) Russell. She attended a one-room county school, then graduated from Fredonia High School in 1951. June attended Kansas State University, where she belonged to the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority and met her husband, Harry Huerter, and they married in 1954. She was a mother and homemaker to their 3 daughters and later became a successful realtor for over 20 years before she retired.
June was a dedicated sports fan, an avid Kansas State supporter and Kansas City Chiefs fan. She enjoyed being with family and friends, family reunions, her church, dinner theater, volunteering, traveling and was an avid bridge player. June’s loving and caring spirit will be cherished as someone who greatly valued her family and friends and genuinely took an interest in others. She was a pure joy to be around. She deeply valued her Catholic faith.
June was preceded in death by her husband, Harry; 4 sisters and 2 brothers; son-in-law, Mark Augustyn; and step-grandson, Joel Reed. She is survived by 3 daughters, Susan Augustyn, Chandler, Arizona; Karen Gatton (Rick), Shawnee, Kansas; Laurie Reed (Jack), Overland Park, Kansas; 2 grandsons, Timothy Gatton and Joseph Gatton, 2 step-grandsons, Carl Reed and Ryan Reed (Jada); and great-granddaughter, Kennadie Gatton.
