Kevin Charles King, 42, Belton, MO, passed away Saturday, July 12, 2014. Visitation will be from 1-2 pm, Saturday, July 19, followed by a Funeral Service at 2 pm at McGilley & Hoge Chapel, 8024 Santa Fe Drive, Overland Park, KS.
Kevin was born September 14, 1971, at Research Hospital, Kansas City, Missouri, the eldest child of Charlie and Becky King. He attended schools in the area, and graduated from Shawnee Mission South High School. From early childhood on, Kevin took everything apart (bikes, baby toys, etc.). He was always a mechanic—he found that out early and he was good at it! His family humorously related that there would sometimes be “extra parts” left over when he thought the project had been completed! Kevin loved to skateboard, and continued that hobby well into adulthood. He even thought he HAD to wear Van shoes for skateboarding, and when they were not available locally, he would order them through relatives who lived in California. A real music lover of the 60’s & 70’s, Kevin had an extensive vinyl collection. His sister, Kimberlee, and Kevin were known to have had many spirited competitions of “Name That Tune.”
On one occasion, Kevin smuggled home a roly-poly puppy. That special dog would be named “Snoopy” and somehow he managed to talk his Mom and Dad into letting him raise her from a pup. Loyalty was a trait the Kevin was known for. He was a most loyal friend….if you had his back, he had yours. His friends would be friends for life! He was employed at Yellow Freight as a mechanic and was a member of Local 512 of the Teamsters. He loved good barbeque!
Kevin is survived by: his son, Connor; his “sweet Pea” Mackenzie Hodges and her children, Braydon and Peyton; his parents, Charlie and Becky King; sister, Kimberlee Neal and his nephews Dylan Neal, Ayden Neal, and Grayson King; the love of his life, Dawn Mustain and her children, Garrett and Katelyn; grandparents, Betty King, Charles (Sr.) and Claire King, Imogene Cavallaro and Robert Ousley; aunts, uncles, and many loyal friends.
Arrangements under the direction of McGilley & Hoge, Overland Park, KS.
