Laura was born when I was about 7 1/2 years old, my first-ever cousin! Soon after that, I discovered "Little House on the Prairie" the children's book, written by Laura Ingalls Wilder about her childhood in southeastern Kansas -- where my new cousin named Laura lived! What a beautiful name! I remember wishing that MY name was Laura. 
My earliest memory of Laura was a family visit when she was just learning to walk.  Her father (my adored Uncle Vern) would stand baby Laura on the palm of his hand, grasping her small feet, and raise his hand high in the air, holding her aloft like the torch of the Statue of Liberty. We were so afraid he would drop her! But Laura would stand tall. 
Several years later, I learned from my mom Betty Morrison (Vern's sister) that she had been named after a popular song "Laura," which my mom could play on our piano. She taught me and my sisters to sing the words. A beautiful, haunting song. and I still remember the words: "Laura . . . is the face in the misty light. Footsteps that you hear down the hall. Laughter that floats on the summer night . . . That was Laura, but she's only a dream." 
And now our Laura is only a dream. A happy memory from my childhood. May her memory bring happiness to all those whose lives she touched.

So sorry to hear about Laura. I wish you comfort and peace to face the days ahead. May warm memories forever comfort your hearts.
