

Loren C. “John” Fitzjarrell, 87, Stilwell, KS, passed away on Thursday, November 18, 2010. Funeral services will be 11 AM, Monday, November 22, 2010 at First Baptist Church of Stilwell, 19950 Broadmoor Lane, Stilwell, KS, with burial in Aubry Cemetery. Visitation will precede the service from 9-11 AM at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Kansas City Hospice, 12000 Wornall Road, KCMO, 64145, or to American Legion Post # 370.
John served in the US Navy during WWII as a fighter pilot, flying off the carrier USS Franklin. After the war, he returned to his wife, Dorothy, and daughter, Jan, in Overland Park, KS. They soon welcomed their second daughter, Pam. John was a graduate of Simpson College in Indianola, IA. He worked for the Kansas City Stockyards for over 40 years. The nearby Golden Ox steakhouse even named the “Fitzjarrell Martini” after John (3 olives!!). He was a 32 Degree Mason, and a member of the American Legion. John enjoyed collecting and repairing pocket watches and wall clocks. He liked to “sell and trade”, and was a candidate for the US Senate in 1978 with the campaign slogan: “Send an Honest Bullshipper to Washington.”
John was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, in 2007. He is survived by two daughters: Jan (Terry) Herman, Lenexa, KS, and Pam (Phil) Crossland, Leawood, KS; 4 grandchildren: Derek, Tague, Cristie and Ryan; 6 great grandchildren: Jacob, Colin, Shaye, Braylie, Colson & Jaycie; a brother: Austin; a sister: Lois Parland; and many nieces and nephews.
