Nick at age 95 passed away peacefully in his sleep and is now in his eternal home in heaven with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was born on August 8, 1916 in Bethlehem, PA to his parents Mary and Joseph Filigno. He was married to his wife Iva for 71 years and leaves behind his children and their spouses: Mary Carol Snooks (Bill) and Nick Jr. (Sherri). He also leaves behind four grandchildren: Cris Snooks, Stacey Dory (Desre), Matt Filing (Courtney) and Michael Filing (Heather). In addition, Nick had seven great-grandchildren: Isabel and Max Dory; Lucy, Logan, and Marlo Filing; and Owen and Emery Filing.
Nick proudly served his country in the Army during World War II. He retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company in Akron, Ohio after 40 years of service. When he retired from Goodyear he held the record for most suggestions actually used by the company. Nick was also an entrepreneur and had various companies that produced ping pong paddles and nets, innersole shoe inserts, breathable bandages, and baseball bat grips. He also started a restaurant called Chicken Charlies.
During his lifetime he was privileged to serve God in many capacities at various Presbyterian Churches. He was a lay pastor to area nursing homes, elder, deacon, superintendent of Sunday School, pastor search committee; Sunday School teacher, youth leader and as a Stephen’s Ministry minister. His faith and serving the Lord were the priorities in his life. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge, Grotto, and Shrine in Akron, Ohio and the Monday Morning Men’s Bible Study and Primetimers Sunday School Class while living in Overland Park.
Nick loved his family and friends (he was known as “Gramps” by most all of the grandkids friends) and he never tired of having fun and enjoying their company.
We thank each and every one of you for your prayers, support, kindness and for being with us to celebrate Nick’s life.
