Peter Joseph Kowalczyk

Peter, the son of Peter Daniel and Josephine Mozgola Kowalczyk, was born in St. Louis, MO on November 1, 1939. In 1951, the family moved to Kansas City, MO. Peter graduated from St. Peters and Bishop Hogan High School. Peter attended St. John’s Seminary in KC, MO and Kenrick Seminary in St. Louis, MO. Peter obtained a Bachelors of Arts and a Masters of Arts from Conception Seminary. Peter was ordained a priest in 1965 and was assigned to parishes in St. Joseph, MO. During those eight years as a priest, he also taught religion classes at the Catholic high schools.

After leaving the priesthood, Peter worked as a stockbroker for various financial institutions in MO and KS.

Peter and Beverly Halter married in 1973 and enjoyed 37 years together. Their son, Peter James, died in infancy in 1981.

Peter loved sports and excelled in baseball and basketball in his younger years. He also was an inveterate collector of memorabilia.

His parents, his son, and his niece, Paula, preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife, Beverly, his sister, Rita Levens, of Westwood, KS, his niece, Monica Levens of Aztec, NM, his wife’s sisters and brother-in-laws, numerous nieces and nephews-in-law, and great-nephew, Dan Hotujac.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at Curé of Ars, 9401 Mission Rd, Leawood, KS, on December 22, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will precede the service at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow the service at Resurrection Cemetery, Lenexa, KS.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Curé of Ars or Kansas City Hospice and Palliative Care.
