

Phyllis was born on September 7, 1911 in Mineral, Kansas, the daughter of Carolyn and Mack Thomas. She was a graduate of the Ursaline Academy in Paola, Kansas and Kansas State College in Pittsburg, Kansas.
She was a member of Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority. Phyllis taught in Mulberry, Kansas. While her husband, Kelly, served in the Navy during World War II, she helped her father run his men’s clothing store in Girard, Kansas. In 1956, Phyllis and Kelly moved their family to Richmond, Virginia where they resided until 1980. They later enjoyed retirement in Daytona Beach, Fl. In recent years, she lived in Overland Park, to be closer to family.
Her husband of 70 years, Kelly Manning, her son, Timothy Manning (Thelma), and her sister, Doris Casterman, preceded Phyllis in death. She is survived by her son Thomas Manning (Gay), daughter Denys Branham (Brent), sister Marjorie Puckett, three grandchildren: Kelly Manning (Stephanie), Tom Branham, Caroline Eagle (Wylie), and four great-grandchildren.
Her family will remember her sense of style and her quiet dignity.
A private family service will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations to be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
