Born in Illinois in 1923, she moved to Kansas City in 1941, raised seven children and worked as a seamstress for clothing manufacturer Mendels, Inc. and Lee's Dresses. After more than 20 years in the garment industry, she turned her passion for antiques into a full-time job. She and her second husband of 47 years, Wayne, travelled the midwest as antique dealers until his death in 2003. Rebecca was always on the hunt for hidden gems, unique finds and known for negotiating the best deal or trade. Rebecca lived independently in her home until her passing. She loved family gatherings, live music, enjoyed cooking Mexican favorites, and her cherry and apple pies will be missed.
She is survived by her children, Albert Venegas, Rita Venegas Scanlon, Veronica Venegas Schleinginger, Paul Venegas, Sandy South Nolan, and Wayne South; her six grandchildren; five great grandchildren and one sibling. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Wayne South; her daughter, Martha South; her parents; and five siblings.
At her request no service will be held.
