It is with great sadness that the family of Dr. Sydney Krampitz announces her passing. Sydney is survived by her daughters, Rebecca Krampitz, Kathleen Matthews (Mark Matthews), Cynthia Linkes (Leonard Linkes); grandchildren David Reed, Lynn Linkes, and Amy Donaldson; and great-grandchildren Alexander Garza, Hannah Garza, and Charles Garza.
Dr. Krampitz lived a full life on her terms. She had a long, amazing career that focused on serving others. She began her work of service as an OB and psychiatric clinical nurse. She volunteered for service in the US military and was a flight nurse in the US Air Force. She mentored other nurses as an educator teaching undergraduate and graduate nursing.
Dr. (Col) Krampitz was a super-star, graduating with a Doctorate in Philosophy (Nursing History) from the University of Chicago. She quickly rose in the ranks and became the Dean of the School of Nursing at Reno Nevada, as well as the University of Kansas. As a Colonel in the USAF Reserves, she was the Commander of the Aeromedical Evacuation Unit at Richards-Gebaur AFB and taught nurses and technicians at Sheppard AFB.
Sydney was a strong and dedicated mother to her three girls. She is fondly remembered as the "vacation director" for Spring break trips to exciting destinations in Florida, Alaska, and Missouri. In addition to these vacations, she was able to make the most mundane event an adventure. One of her favorite sayings was "this is the BEST......!!" She enjoyed traveling, reading, and visiting with neighbors and friends. We want to thank her wonderful neighbors who watched over her and brought her meals (Larry, thanks for spaghetti Saturdays…. the best spaghetti ever!!!) and the wonderful nurses at the University of Kansas Neuroscience unit who provided excellent end of life care.
Sydney will be missed by many. She would want us all to press on toward the goal for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus (Philippians 3:13-14).
A visitation for Sydney will be held from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by her funeral service at 11:00 AM on Monday, January 24, 2022 at McGilley & Hoge Johnson County Memorial Chapel, 8024 Santa Fe Drive, Overland Park, KS 66204. Her committal service with Military Honors is scheduled for 1:30 PM on Monday, January 24 at Leavenworth National Cemetery, 150 Muncie Road, Leavenworth, KS 66048.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.mcgilleyhoge.com for the Krampitz family.
