Tom had an engineering mind and was always thinking of ways to improve the world around him. Tom was best known for his giving nature and his daily commitment to placing the needs of others ahead of his own. He was a Kansas City Star carrier for more than 40 years and was instrumental in establishing Project Warmth, which funded the building of Crittenton Center. Tom was an auto racer, a private pilot and the grandfather that every kid would want. During 30-plus years as a master float builder for area St. Patrick’s Day parades, Tom’s creations won countless parade trophies and plaques and more than a few dollars in prize money. Tom was a parishioner at St. Thomas More parish in Kansas City, Missouri for more than 40 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecilia and Henry Gabel. He is survived by his wife, Bernie; daughter, Amy Theisen (Tim); grandchildren, Tim, Matt and John; sister, Theresa Wolkey; and nephew, Ron Wolkey of Philadelphia. Tom was beloved and will be missed by his nieces, nephews and extended family, who hope that St. Peter meets him with a video camera and asks, “What day is it?” and “Can you tell me why we’re here today, Tom?"
92 days until St. Patrick’s Day!
