

Thomas (Tom) Jay Thornton, Sr., 70, Overland Park, KS passed away January 22, 2014 at home surrounded by those he loved. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., Friday, January 24 at McGilley & Hoge Chapel, 8024 Santa Fe Drive, Overland Park. Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m., Saturday, January 25 at Highland Christian Church in Highland, KS, preceded by a visitation at the church from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Burial will be private at a later date in Highland, KS. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Kansas City Hospice or to the Zero Prostate Foundation (Zerocancer.org).
Tom was born January 25, 1943 in Haddonfield, NJ to parents Paul and Grace (Armstrong) Thornton. Growing up in Highland, KS, Tom played football through High School and college. He was retired from printing sales and had a long history with H & R Block. Tom was honorably discharged from the US Army National Guard. He loved KU Jayhawks, and the KC Chiefs and Royals. Tom loved to watch his children and grandchildren play sports.
He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by: his wife of 46 years, Terry (Teresa); sons Jay, Kevin and wife Ashley, and Tyler; his daughters Beth and husband Ryan Darst, and Sarah and fiancé Shawn; his 3 wonderful grandchildren David, Adam and Allison; brothers Richard (Jackie) Thornton, Bob (Norma) Thornton, and David (JoLynn) Thornton; and many beloved nieces, nephews, great nephews, great nieces and friends.
