

William R. “Ray” Carter, 83, of Lenexa, KS died August 31, 2016. Funeral Mass will be 10 am on Thursday, September 8, 2016 at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 5250 Mission Road, Roeland Park, KS. Burial in Resurrection Cemetery, Lenexa, KS. Visitation will be 6-8 pm on Wednesday, September 7th at McGilley & Hoge Chapel, 8024 Santa Fe Drive, Overland Park, KS with the Rosary recitation at 6 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to Kansans for Life, Catholic Charities, St. Agnes Church or your favorite charity.
Ray was born on May 19, 1933 in KC, KS to hard working parents, Clarence and Mary (Gallagher) Carter. He was a devout and faithful Catholic, a Veteran of the US Army serving in Japan during the Korean War, member of the Korean War Veterans Association, Knights of Columbus, Kansans for Life and the Sunshine Club of Holy Cross Parish. Through hard work and the GI Bill, Ray was able to attend St. Benedicts College, before graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Relations from Rockhurst College in 1959. He enjoyed his work in Employment and Labor Relations in the Aerospace Industry in California, as well as his 20 years as a Labor Management Relations Field Examiner with the National Labor Relations Board, where he acquired numerous respected friends. After retiring, Ray enjoyed volunteering at Catholic Charities.
Ray enjoyed bowling, golf, hunting, fishing, camping, and family gatherings because of the family and friends he could share these activities with. In 1980, Ray met Bill Wilson and Dr. Bob Smith and through that association met many other friends, too numerous to name here.
Ray was preceded in death by infant son, Joseph; parents; brothers, Joe, Mike and Danny Carter; sister, Kathy Knopp; beloved aunts, Elizabeth Gallagher and Agnes Gallagher; in-laws, Frank and Rose (Lonergan) Collins and many other family members and friends.
Survivors include his loving wife, Rosemary (Collins) Carter; sons, Raymond (Carol), Tom (Linda), Paul (Tammy), Chris (Julie) and Kevin; daughters, Mary Beth (Art) Strange and Ann Marie Carter; 13 grandchildren, 3 great-granddaughters; his sister, Mary Ann O’Connor; numerous nephews, nieces and friends.
