She lived a full, good life being raised in Detroit and meeting her husband, Wilford English Pennington (Doc) after high school. They married and had two children, Carol Ann Cruzen (daughter) and Dennis James Pennington (son). She had always wanted to go to university but having a good German father she was lovingly told “Why would I send a girl to university. Get a job or a husband.” So, she got a job and 2 years later got married. When Doc was transferred to Southern California in the 1960’s Betty easily ran her household and also took advantage of the state university system obtaining a BA, Teaching Credential, and a master’s degree. She taught school until she was 66 when she retired. She loved being a wife, mother, teacher and volunteering for church and community activities. She and Doc traveled the world after her retirement and she visited her grandchildren who lived in many places around the world. She was a learner right up to the time she passed.
She is survived by her daughter, Carol Cruzen; son Dennis; three grandchildren and one great grandchild. They all love, respect and are grateful to have had this strong loving woman as a part of their lives.
A memorial service will be held 2 PM Saturday, March 2, 2024 at Encore Assisted Living in Avalon.
Arrangements entrusted to Baldwin Fairchild Funeral Home, Oviedo Chapel.
