With heavy hearts but grateful spirits, we celebrate the beautiful life of Eva Georgina Granston, affectionately known to all as “Dolce.” Born on June 24, 1934, in Craighead, Manchester, Jamaica, Eva was a light to everyone who knew her—fierce in faith, firm in values, and overflowing with love. On March 13, 2025, at the remarkable age of 90, she peacefully transitioned into eternal rest, leaving behind a legacy that words can barely contain.
From a young age, Eva was curious, bright, and deeply committed to learning. Her early education at Trelawny Primary was the beginning of a journey filled with determination and ambition. She later moved to Kingston to further her education, always striving to make her life—and the lives of those around her—better.
In 1971, driven by dreams of opportunity and a better future, Eva courageously left the familiar shores of Jamaica and made her way to the United States. The transition wasn’t easy, but in true Dolce fashion, she faced each challenge with grit, grace, and a bit of her signature sass. She embraced the American way of life, but never let go of her Jamaican roots, which she carried proudly in her speech, her cooking, and her heart.
Eva dedicated over 28 years of her life to Montefiore Medical Center, where her strength, compassion, and no-nonsense attitude earned her the respect and admiration of coworkers and patients alike. But her career was just one chapter in a life rich with purpose. She loved traveling, helping others, and above all, sharing her faith. Eva lived for service—whether it was through volunteer work or simply lending a listening ear to someone in need.
A faithful member of Bronx Bethany Church of the Nazarene before relocating to Florida, Eva lived out her calling every single day. She believed deeply in nurturing the next generation. Every Sunday, she would lovingly pack her trusted Chevy Nova with neighborhood children, ensuring they got to church on time for Sunday school. Her favorite scripture, *Proverbs 22:6—"Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it"—*was not just a verse she recited, but a truth she lived.
Eva was a woman of conviction—her house had rules, her kitchen had recipes you couldn’t find in any book, and her words, though sometimes sharp, were always real and rooted in love. She loved hard, prayed harder, and gave endlessly of herself.
She leaves behind her beloved husband of 31 years, Beresford Granston, who stood by her side through life’s joys and challenges. She also leaves behind countless friends, relatives, church family, and the many children she lovingly guided through life and faith.
While our hearts ache with her absence, we take comfort in knowing that her spirit lives on—in every child she helped raise, every meal she lovingly prepared, every prayer she whispered, and every person she touched.
Rest well, Mama Dolce. Your work here is done, and your light will never fade.
