

Harrison Dean Paulus died after a brief illness on August 15, 2020 at the age of 85. He was born on June 28, 1935 to Harry Decker Paulus and Dorothy Bright Paulus. He grew up in Boulder, Colorado and joined the U.S. Army after high school. He served in the Korean War as a K-9 handler. After his honorable discharge, he graduated from Colorado State University. In Estes Park, he married the love of his life Corrine Miriam Loetscher after a brief courtship. He worked as a U.S. Park ranger in the Rocky Mountain National Park and the Great Smokey Mountains National Park. He became a U.S. Border Patrol Agent in San Diego, California and went on to serve as a Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs (BNDD) Special Agent. The BNDD later became the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). His DEA career encompassed over 30 years working undercover in numerous countries to include the U.S., South America, Central America and Southeast Asia. In addition to being nationally recognized as a trainer of federal, state and local law enforcement narcotics agents, Dean had the distinction of being the resident expert on cocaine trafficking for the southeastern United States. He earned a Master’s degree in Criminal Justice from Nova Southeastern University. After retirement from the DEA, he went on to a second career at 3M Company in Minnesota training hospitals in quality care. Dean retired from 3M and moved to Oviedo, Florida in 1995. During his retirement years, he enjoyed volunteering with the local “Citizens on Patrol” (COPS) and the United Methodist church. He enjoyed spending his free time on the water fishing and traveling to his beloved Rocky Mountains National Park.
Dean is predeceased by his brother, Duane and his son David. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Corrine, daughters Tammy (Bill) Anzenberger and Jacqui (Andy) Henrikson, his brother, Dana Paulus and sister Diane Stone. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, one great grandson and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service and celebration of life will be held on August 24, 2020 at 2 p.m. at the Tuskawilla United Methodist Church in Casselberry, Florida. A guest book and on-line link to the service can be found at the Baldwin-Fairchild Oviedo Funeral home.
