James “Jimmy” Garland Peery, age 61, of Oviedo, Florida, was called home to be with the Lord on Monday, August 5, 2024. Jimmy loved his family with all his heart and fought hard to stay here for them as long as he could. Jimmy was born April 5, 1963, in Rockledge, Florida, and grew up in Cocoa, Florida. After dating for seven years, Jimmy married Beverly in 1989 and they have been married for 35 years; together for 42 years. They have two beautiful daughters, Marissa and Brianna, and a precious granddaughter, Kennedy, who he adored.
Jimmy was the youngest of seven siblings. After high school, he served in the U.S. Army before being accepted into the Police Academy. After graduation from the academy, he served with the Cocoa Police Department as a patrol officer and was a member of Brevard County Wide Drug Task Force. Jimmy loved being in law enforcement. He and Beverly moved to Orlando in 1990 when he joined the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. During this time, he was a patrol officer, a member of the SWAT team, and also an agent with the Metropolitan Bureau of Investigation Vice Unit. He loved his work, loved to share his stories about his work, and he put his life on the line more times than we want to remember. Everyone felt a little more at ease when “Big Jim” arrived on the scene. Jimmy later left law enforcement and became a Private Investigator and an Insurance Adjustor, which he did until his health forced him to retire. Jimmy had a long career serving the public.
Jimmy loved his family. He was a husband, father, and grandfather, and was the most amazing “girl dad” and G-Pa. He was so proud of all of his girls. His family was his “why” and his reason for fighting to stay with us as long as he did. He was a loyal friend and a protector of us all; he always had your back. Jimmy was the life of the party and everyone knew when he arrived. He could strike up a conversation with anyone, had a story about everything, and loved to make people laugh.
Jimmy is deeply loved and will be greatly missed by his family: his wife and the love of his life, Beverly, his daughters, Marissa Wagner (Carson) and Brianna Peery (Austin), and his treasured granddaughter, Kennedy Wagner.
A Celebration of Life will be held on August 24, 2024, at the Baldwin Fairchild Funeral Home, Oviedo Chapel. Family visitation will begin at 11:30am, public visitation will begin at 12:00pm, and his Celebration of Life will begin at 12:30pm with a reception immediately following.
