Jean Marie Jablon, whose steady hand and joyful laugh shaped so many lives.
Born on November 23, 1964, in Rockville Centre, New York, she entered this world the daughter of James A. Moreland and Ethel A. Diehm—parents whose devotion laid the foundation for everything she would become.
Jean’s own journey led her to James Madison University, where she earned her bachelor’s degree and discovered her true calling: teaching.
Her career began on the sun-washed islands of the Azores in Portugal, where her husband Robert was stationed while serving in the United States Navy. There, among rolling hills and Atlantic breezes, she crafted her first lesson plans, learning early the universal language of encouragement that would define her style.
For decades, she brought light and rigor to Cypress Springs Elementary, where her students learned not only reading, writing, and arithmetic but also how to “hunt the good stuff” in every challenge life presented. She built lessons with precision and care but never lost that spark of humor that made even the most reluctant learner sit up and pay attention.
Her colleagues adored her for the same reasons her students did: Jean was the friend you could count on to lend a hand, the mentor who guided with firm kindness, and the cheerleader who celebrated every small victory. In retirement, that legacy only grew—former pupils would still stop her in the grocery store to share news of graduations, weddings, and the lives she helped shape.
But above all, she was Mother and Partner. Married to Robert Jablon for more than three decades, they shared a love as deep and steady as the ocean waves they once watched together in Portugal. They spent countless evenings walking our beloved golden doodle, Sandy, savoring the simple joy of each other’s company and the soft Florida breeze—right up until the end.
She took her greatest pride in David and Bethany, celebrating their hard-won triumphs—in the classroom, in the field, in every corner of life—with tears in her eyes and joy in her voice. “You got this,” she’d say, “you’re ready”—and they were, thanks to her unshakeable belief in them.
Jean taught us that precision and passion can live in the same heart, that toughness and tenderness need not be strangers. She encouraged us all to face challenges head-on, to seek the spark of goodness even in hard times, and to laugh whenever we could.
She joins her brother, James M. Moreland, and her father, James A. Moreland, in heaven, whose memories and love remain with us always. She is survived by her husband, Robert Jablon; her son, David Jablon; her daughter, Bethany Jablon; her mother, Ethel Moreland; and her loving sisters, Christine Culbertson and Sharon Shepherd. Rest well, Jean. Your story lives on in every life you’ve touched. In everything we do, we will honor you.
Visitation to celebrate Jean’s life will be held on Thursday, May 15, 2025, between 5:00 and 7:00 PM at the Baldwin Fairchild Funeral Home, 501 E Mitchell Hammock Rd, Oviedo, FL 32765.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made to the V Foundation for Cancer Research, a cause Jean deeply believed in.
