Johnnie E. Baylor, 89, a native of Cedar Key, Florida, passed away peacefully on December 18, 2025, with his immediate family by his side. Born on April 26, 1936, Johnnie grew up in the close knit coastal community he cherished throughout his life, embodying the values of service, faith, hard work, and devotion to others.
A proud veteran, Johnnie served as a medic in the United States Army, offering care, calm, and compassion to those who depended on him. His commitment to service continued long after his military years. For 55 years, he faithfully served as a Deacon at Northside Baptist Church, where he was known for his gentle spirit, unwavering faith, and willingness to help anyone in need.
Johnnie also dedicated 42 years of his professional life to Bell South, where he was respected for his reliability, deep technical knowledge, and steady work ethic. Whether at work, at church, or in the community, he was the kind of man people trusted.
A true son of Cedar Key, Johnnie was also an avid fisherman. The water was his second home, and he found peace, joy, and purpose in the tides, the docks, and the simple rhythm of casting a line. He was well known for crafting his own cast nets—meticulously made, durable, and so skillfully tied that others sought them out. Sharing those nets, and the knowledge behind them, became one of the many quiet ways he connected with his community.
Above all, Johnnie was a devoted family man. He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Cornelia, who was his partner in every sense of the word. Together they raised three daughters who were the joy of his life: Cynthia Conino (husband Sal), Janet Pangborn (husband Ken), and Julie Thomas. He also leaves behind six grandchildren and four great grandchildren -- plus one on the way -- each of whom brought him immense pride and happiness.
Johnnie will be remembered for his kindness, humility, and the steady presence he offered to all who knew him. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the family he cherished, and the community he served so faithfully.
He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
