Judith Ann Hurley, 89, of Winter Park, Florida passed away peacefully on November 15, 2022. Judy was born June 14,1933, in Xenia, Ohio. She married John David Hurley in May of 1954. They had 4 children. David was in the military, and they served on multiple military bases including in Kansas, Missouri, Canada, Washington DC, Michigan, South Carolina, and Florida before settling in Winter Park after he retired from the Air Force. They enjoyed their trips to Sun City for golfing and bowled together in several leagues. Their home was known for being the place to swim, the backyard known as “Pool World”. Judy enjoyed her tradition of serving fondue when company was visiting.
Sadly, after 36 years of marriage, Judy became a widow when John David passed away on December 25, 1990. She spent the next 32 years living alone, missing him, but living a wonderful life! She continued playing golf with her friends at Dubsdread, having lunch with the ladies, and bowling with her son Tim. In her 70s she even rode her bicycle to her Curves exercise class. She loved taking a dip in her pool in the evenings as she enjoyed her 5:00 Wine Time.
She worked for the state of Florida proctoring state licensing exams. She tested construction workers, electricians, plumbers, dentists, chiropractors, and acupuncturists. She also proctored exams at Barry University. She worked at the Orange County Convention Center as well, checking in vendors or convention goers. As if the jobs weren’t enough, she also volunteered for athletic events at Walt Disney World. She’d get up at 3am to drive to Disney on Marathon days to hand out bib packets, check in runners, or hand out cups of water along the race. She most looked forward to the golf tournaments where she kept score for and walked alongside numerous professional golfers. Volunteering at Disney didn’t bring money in, but it did give her tickets to the theme park. She loved taking family members to the parks to share her love of Mickey!
What brought the most joy to her life was her family. She traveled to California, Hawaii, Colorado, Ohio, Nevada, and Texas to visit them and share in special events and holidays. Close to home she attended her grandsons’ birthday parties, band concerts, baseball and basketball games, volleyball games, karate events, award ceremonies, and high school graduations.
Judy was preceded in death by her brothers, David Funk and Dennis Funk, her husband, John David Hurley, and her two sons-in-law Terry Carle and Alan Pollak. Those grieving her loss include her sister Karen Gordley (John), her children; Joy Carle, Mark Hurley (Jennifer), Kelli Pollak, and Tim Hurley (Rhonda), her grandchildren; Jackie Baker (Marcus), Kylene Hart, Nicholas Hurley and Matthew Hurley, her great grandson Gabriel Baker, and 14 nieces and nephews.
We will miss her enthusiastic love for life, her encouraging words of wisdom, her storytelling, and her keen sense of humor. She loved and is loved more than words can say.
A celebration of life for Judith will be held Saturday, December 10, 2022, at 1:00 PM at Baldwin-Fairchild Oviedo, 501 E Mitchell Hammock Rd, Oviedo, Florida 32765.
