Karl Edwin Dahlberg, 84, of Oviedo, Florida, passed away on Friday, February 27, 2026. Born on January 24, 1942, in Elizabeth, New Jersey, Karl lived a life defined by service, discipline, loyalty, and a deep love for family.
As a young man, Karl attended the United States Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut. After graduation, he chose a path of even greater commitment by joining the United States Marine Corps. He served his country proudly for 15 years, including three tours in Vietnam. His courage and dedication earned him numerous honors, including the Presidential Unit Citation with three stars, Navy Commendation Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, Combat Action Ribbon, Meritorious Unit Citation, Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, and Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal. Those who knew him understood that while he wore his medals with pride, he carried his sense of duty even more deeply.
After his military service, Karl continued his pursuit of excellence by earning a master’s degree in accounting from Rutgers University. He went on to serve as an auditor with the Department of Defense at the Defense Contract Audit Agency until his retirement in 2012. He also enjoyed shaping the next generation of professionals as an adjunct professor at Rutgers University, teaching forensic accounting with the same discipline and integrity that guided his own career.
Service remained central to Karl’s life. He served as President of the New Jersey chapter of AMVETS, Cubmaster for Pack 100, Manager of Linden Little League Baseball, and a board member for ISACA. After relocating to Oviedo, he became a proud member of The Bunker, where he valued the camaraderie and shared stories with fellow veterans.
Karl embraced life’s simple joys. He enjoyed hiking when he was able, had a special love for animals (though squirrels were a well-known exception), and was a devoted model train enthusiast. He appreciated a good poker game, a perfectly cooked steak, and above all, time spent with those he loved.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 41 years, Bernice Dahlberg; his stepchildren, Raymond, David, and Julie, along with their spouses; eight cherished grandchildren; and his brothers, Harold and Reno. His legacy of strength, humor, service, and devotion to family will continue to live on in all who knew him.
Arrangements are entrusted to Baldwin-Fairchild Funeral Home, 501 East Mitchell Hammock Road, Oviedo, Florida 32765.
Semper Fidelis — his watch has ended, but his duty, honor, and devotion to country will never be forgotten.
