William Albert (Bill) Henry was born in Atlanta, Georgia on July 20, 1937. Bill was the third son of Jerry and Agnes Henry. He passed away peacefully at home on July 1, 2015. His devoted wife of 55 years, Charlotte and his daughter, Elizabeth (Beth) were by his side.
Bill is survived by one daughter, Elizabeth (Beth) Gaussart, and one son, David Henry. Bill’s eldest son, William Charles (Billy) passed away on July 29th 2012. Billy’s son, Alan Lee Henry lives in Edgewater, Florida with his mother, Alma Henry. Bill’s one sister, Geraldine Van Kaas, lives in Port Orange, Florida with her husband and family. Bill’s daughter, Beth has two children; Samantha Ingram and Preston Gaussart. All of his Step Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren reside in Florida.
Bill knew early in his adulthood that he wanted to travel to see places he’d never been. He was a natural born salesman, an expert at reading people. He never met a stranger. This talent would carry him far in his chosen vocation as a salesman. At a very young age he sold used cars and trucks for his brother, Clifford. He also managed a Barbeque restaurant, and several grocery stores.
He married Charlotte Lee in June of 1960. Bill had three passions in life; his family, selling and cooking barbeque. He because known as the Battery Man and the Barbeque Man.
In the late 60’s he entered the battery phase of his life, where he sold batteries for Gould National Battery Company. He made quite a name for himself as “the round man with the square deal”. He attained the position of South Eastern Regional Sales Manager. He loved making sales calls on his many customers who came to regard him as a friend. He was very service oriented.
Bill went on to work for several large battery companies throughout his career. Among them were Prestolite, Douglas, GNB and Exide. In 1979, Gould transferred the family to Central Florida, where Bill managed a large territory encompassing all of Florida and South Georgia. He kept up with many of his customers over the years, and many who worked with him, since his retirement.
During Bill’s career, he was able to fulfill some of his dreams of traveling to places he’d never seen; he and Charlotte traveled to Canada, Carmel California, Monte Carlo, Paris, New Orleans and Las Vegas. However, he was most content when he was cooking up a pile of ribs in the backyard for his close friends and family.
Rest well my darling. You were my Gallant Knight and a great father to our children, and true to form, you did it your way…Always with a joke. We miss you!
