

Bill served in the US Air Force from 1953-1957. He graduated from Queens College, Queens, New York with a BA in English and obtained an MS in Education from Hofstra University, Hempstead, NY.
Although his career began in the classroom as a fourth and fifth grade teacher, Bill became a writer and consultant in the New York City school system. He worked as a writer and editor for My Weekly Reader, creating a fictional character, Pete Russo, who traveled the world and reported on what he'd seen. After moving to California, he worked for Janus Book Publishers, and later, freelanced for other publishing houses as a writer and editor in a variety of educational materials. He completed his career working in desktop publishing and as a photographer for the Central Florida Fire Academy.
Bill loved the arts and delighted acting in both community and semi-professional theaters for most of his adult life. He especially loved being in nature and enjoyed hiking, cycling, kayaking, and long walks on the beach.
He is survived by his wife, Claudia Lefkowitz; step-sons, David King, (Nicole), and Jonathan King; step-daughter, Catherine King; grandchildren, Logan King and Madison King; and niece, Anne Goodman of Brooklyn, NY.
