It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Alice Moreno Hernandez, 89, of Salinas, CA on December 21, 2024. She passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her children. She is survived by her five children: Lisa (Vince) Hernandez of Hanford, CA, Lora (Sam) Garcia of Salinas, CA, Gary (Sally) Ramones of Antioch, CA, DeAnna (David) Hostetter of Bakersfield, CA, and Manny Hernandez of Sacramento, CA, 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.
Our mother was born in Tulare, CA on August 27, 1935 to Felix Gonzales Moreno and Mary Baiza Moreno. She had five brothers and six sisters, with four brothers and three sisters of whom preceded her in death. She grew up in the Central and Salinas Valley, attending Salinas High School. She lived in Salinas for over 70 years, working at John Ingles Company and the latter United Foods and Goodwill Industries.
She was a strong and beautiful woman inside and out with a genuinely kind and loving heart. She never hesitated to help any person in need with food, clothing or an empathetic ear. She was a wonderful cook, inspiring all of her children to become the same. She enjoyed music, movies and a good book, especially movies and books with a heartfelt love story. Her hobbies included gardening, puzzles, embroidery and sewing, making many useful kitchen crafts. She had a passion for interior design and had a knack for making a house a beautiful home. She loved her family dearly, enjoying time spent with her children and the generations that followed over the years, enlightening us all with her wisdom, quick wit, childhood stories and humor.
As we respect and honor our mother’s wishes, a private celebration of life and service will be held for immediate family only with her final resting place at El Carmelo Cemetery in Pacific Grove.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to a charity of your choice.
