July 16, 1964 – May 11, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Antonio (Tony) Piazza. Born on July 16, 1964, in Isola delle Femmine, Sicily, Tony passed away on May 11, 2025, at the age of 60 after a brief illness. He leaves behind a legacy of love, dedication, and unforgettable memories.
Tony enjoyed a childhood surrounded by family and friends in his beautiful hometown of Isola. At just 15, he joined the merchant marines in Sicily, beginning a lifelong journey marked by hard work and determination. At 18, he moved to Monterey, California, where he married his first wife, Maria Aiello, and together they welcomed their first son, Peter Anthony. Tony began building his version of the American dream. A true entrepreneur, Tony founded a successful gardening and landscaping business for 26 years.
In 1997, Tony re-married the love of his life, Paola Tedesco, and together they expanded their family with four more children. The family later decided to move to Sicily to reconnect with their roots, their family, and the charm of his hometown and to enjoy what Tony called the best Sicilian cannoli. In 2022, Tony brought his family back to Monterey, hoping to provide greater opportunities for his children.
Tony cherished life’s simple pleasures: barbecuing, family gatherings, laughing with friends at the local coffee shops, and cheering on his favorite soccer teams. His warm, charismatic personality and infectious smile and laugh left an impression on everyone he met. Most recently, he worked as a bellman at the Hyatt Regency Monterey. Although his time in that role was brief, he made a lasting impact—so much so that guests often requested Tony by name for his kindness and helpfulness.
Above all, Tony was a devoted father. He instilled in his children the values of hard work, perseverance, and the importance of family. His strength and spirit will live on through them.
Tony is Survived by his wife of 26 years, Paola; five sons, Peter Piazza, Jeremy, Alessandro, Salvatore and his stepson, Michael Robb; daughter, Francesca (Francesco) Montalbano and a grandson on the way; his siblings, Caterina, Pino, Mimma, and Laura; in-laws, Girolamo and Rosalia Tedesco; brother-in- law, Salvatore and Ashely Tedesco; sister-in-law, Rosalia Tedesco and many nieces and nephews and his fur-baby Sheila.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Pietro Piazza and Francesca Piazza, as well as his beloved sister, Aurelia Piazza.
Tony will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the community. His vibrant memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Services will be held on May 22, 2025 at 10:30 am at St. Angela Merici Catholic Church in Pacific Grove.
