11/06/1936 - 03/21/2022
Barbara, age 85, passed away peacefully on March 21, 2022, in Cannel,
California at the Brookdale Manor assisted living facility with her loving husband
Richard Mattson at her side. Barbara and Richard would have celebrated their 49th wedding
anniversary on March 24, 2022.
Barbara (Bobbe) Pino was born in Gallup, New Mexico, growing up and graduating high
school there while working at the family run Pino Trading store on old Route 66. She was the
first in her family to finish college, receiving a BS in mathematics from the University of New
Mexico in Albuquerque.
Something of a trailblazer, Barbara spent her career working with computers in many
companies finally joining IBM in 1965 and staying with them until she retired in 1991. During
her working career, Barbara held many high-level management positions in manufacturing,
development, and research and was a pioneer among women, holding several high level jobs that,
at that time, were normally held by men.
After retirement Barbara continued to work occasionally, serving as a consultant to help
the state of Washington avoid Y2K issues and serving on the civil grand jury for Monterey
County. She was very active in her church and community, freely volunteering her service. She
served as Regent for Catholic Daughters and was on the board of several local charities. She
spent the remainder of her time focused on family, social service, and world travel.
Barbara was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Her greatest
joy came from planning and executing family gatherings, outings, and trips which were enjoyed
by all. Over the course of her life, she visited every state in the United States, all seven
continents, and over 60 different countries.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents Priscilla and Manuel Pino, brother Ray
Pino, son Steven Brawn, and son David Mattson. Barbara is survived by her husband Richard
Mattson (Carmel, California), son Kristopher (Alena) Brawn, daughter Shaleen Brawn,
stepdaughter Laurie (Miles) Davis, stepson Jeffrey (Nancy) Mattson, granddaughters Amanda
(Reece) Bell, Sarah Brawn, Rebecca Brawn, Amalia Brawn, and Severa Brawn, step grandsons
Chandler Davis and Matthew Davis, three great grandchildren, and several loving nieces,
nephews, and cousins.
In lieu of cards, gifts, or flowers, Barbara would have suggested donations to the
Alzheimer's Association: ALZ.org..
