

Bessie Conway Sims, 86, peacefully passed away on January 21st at home with family by her side.
Bessie was born February 27,1925, in North Carolina, to James and Minnie Pearl Conry. She married Charles J. Sims on December 5, 1942 - two days before the attack on Pearl Harbor. MSG C.J. Sims was immediately sent off to war.
Bessie came to the Monterey Peninsula to await the return of her husband after his release from the Veteran’s Hospital following World War II. Bessie and C.J. started their own business, Sims House Cleaning, in the 1950’s. Bessie helped raise many of the neighborhood kids, and volunteered regularly at her children’s schools: San Carlos Elementary, Junipero Memorial and Palma High School. She was an active member of many organizations, including St. Francis Xavier Church, Seaside Police Wives’ Club, and CHOMP Auxiliary. In her later years, she worked as a home health aide.
Nothing was more important to Bessie than her family. She was a beloved mother and cherished grandmother. Bessie will forever be the heart and soul of her family.
Bessie is predeceased by her husband, Charles J. Sims and son, Charles J. Sims Jr. of Seaside, California. She is survived by her children, Michaelle Diane Sims and Alan Sims; her grandchildren Cira Sims, Tira Sims, A.J. Sims and Anthony Sims; her daughter-in-law Patti Sims, and many nieces and nephews.
A service will be held to celebrate Bessie’s life on Saturday, February 18 at 3pm at the Asilomar Conference Center - Kiln Room.
