David Stuart Neely

August 21, 1958 ~ September 11, 2012

Monterey ~ David S. Neely, born in Burlingame, California and raised in Fremont, California passed away at Community Hospital in Monterey, California. David received his BS Degree in Computer Science from the University of Washington and his Master’s Degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the Naval Postgradate School and second Master’s Degree in National Security Systems from the Naval War College, Newport, Rhode Island.

David began his career as an enlisted person at a rating of Aviation Electronics Technician progressing as a Naval Flight Officer (VP-17, VPU-1 and VP-26). He served as OIC of TSC Sigonella and Executive Officer and Associate Professor at NROTC at the University of Washington. During his 35-year career in the US Navy, David served as a Military Professor and Associate Chairperson of Operations for the ECE Department at the Naval Postgraduate School. Following retirement, he served as Co-Director of Operations for the Department of Cyber Warfare.

David was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed fly fishing, sailing, biking, hiking and golfing.

David is survived by his wife of 36 years, Linda; his children, Daniel of Redmond, Washington, Dayan (Cosette) of Rainier, Washington and Brionne (Eric) Price of Mountlake Terrace, Washington; his parents, Donald and Barbara of Arnold, California; his brothers, Steven of Sacramento and Michael (Lynn) of Byron, California and his grandchildren, Aidian, age 8, Conor, age 6, Campbell, age 5, Micaiah, age 3 and soon-to-be-born, Autumn.

Visitation will take place at The Paul Mortuary today, Saturday, September 15 from 2:00 – 3:00 PM. A Celebration of David’s Life will be at the Naval Postgraduate School Chapel next Tuesday, September 18 at 1:00 PM. Burial with full military honors will take place at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, Washington on Friday, September 28 at 11:15 AM.
