

She was the second youngest of six children of Frank and Lila Thompson. Deede grew up in Pacific Grove, California and was a 1948 graduate of Pacific Grove High School. Following high school Deede married Donald Marks and had two daughters, Mary, and Lynda. Her first job was working at Dyke Pharmacy in Pacific Grove. In her lifetime she held positions as a waitress, secretary and retirement home manager, her last position before retirement she was a school nurse in San Jose.
In 1976, Deede married Robert Landers, together they enjoyed road trips, camping and time with family and the growing number of grandchildren. In 1982 Deede and Robert moved to Scotts Valley and enjoyed an active community life at Montevalle.
Deede was an active member of Beta Sigma Phi throughout her adult life and enjoyed friendships and community service activities the organization sponsored. While her daughters were school aged, Deede enjoyed serving as a Camp Fire Girls leader. Her hobbies included cake decorating, oil painting, and flower arranging. Deede’s friends and family will always remember her as a kind, fun-loving, life of the party, with an enthusiastic sense of humor, embracing work and family time with enthusiasm and love of people.
Deede is predeceased by her beloved husband, Robert Landers, and daughter Lynda Marks, sisters Elinor Brown, Jacky Menezes, and brother Mervin Thompson. Deede leaves behind to cherish her memory, her daughter, Dr. Mary C. Marks, stepchildren, Jim Landers, Ken Landers, Tom Landers and Carolyn Jordan, sisters Lila Stout, Erline Brownfield, grandchildren, great grandchildren plus beloved nieces and nephews.
