Elinor was born March 11, 1925 in Sacramento, CA to Frank and Lila Thompson. She spent most of her childhood and adult life on the Monterey Peninsula, CA. At the age of 18, she obtained a job working as a ticket clerk for the Southern Pacific Railroad. It turned out the job was perfect for her and in a few short months, she came to love going to work. In particular, she loved helping people get home to their loved ones, especially members of the military. She met and married Richard Alan Brown while working for the Railroad. They raised two daughters, Sandy and Janice. When the Railroad Station finally closed, she took a job working as a civilian employee in the area of readiness for the Army at Fort Ord, CA. Her family moved Elinor to Palm Desert in late 2018, where she lived until she passed.
Elinor will always be remembered as the “Best Mommy in the Whole Wide World” by her daughters. She raised them with a lot of love, hugs and kisses. She was always there for them. She made every holiday special as she carried on the traditions she learned from her mother. Every bedtime was a time to pass on her love to last her children through a good night’s sleep.
Elinor was preceded in death by her mother and father, Frank and Lila Thompson; former husband, Richard Brown; brother, Mervin Thompson and sister, Jackie Menezes. Elinor is survived by her daughters, Sandy Rosen and Jan Bond; sisters, Erline Brownfield, Lila Stout, and Dedee Landers; granddaughters, Brandi Ficara (Paul) and Lisa Rosen, great-grandchildren Luca and Elinor Ficara, and numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces, and nephews.
The love she leaves behind will live in our hearts forever as it is passed down through the next generations!
Elinor will be buried at El Carmelo Cemetery on June 2, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in her honor to Disabled American Vets or any other charity that supports veterans.
