

Ethel Prowell Arnold died on September 21st at home in Pebble Beach, of complications due to neuroendocrine cancer. Ethel was born to Dot and Roy Prowell in Pittsburg, PA, and the family moved to Monterey in 1952 with the Naval Postgraduate School. She graduated from Carmel High School and UC Berkeley, and was married August 1964 to her college sweetheart, Jack Arnold. Ethel and Jack were high school teachers in Mathematics and Biology, respectively, the last 20 years of their careers being at York School. Their goal in teaching was to encourage students to understand and succeed in the given topic. Ethel was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Monterey, where she and Jack were among the initial leaders of the lay ministry program called Stephen Ministry. Ethel is survived by her husband, Jack; her brother, Walt ( Bev); her daughter, Jill Lundberg (Gary) and grandchildren, Jeremy and Allison, and her son, Jeff (Jenn) and grandchildren Jaden, Rylee, and Reese. A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church on October 2nd at 1:00pm. In lieu of flowers Ethel asked that contributions in her name be sent to Mission Memorial Endowment Fund, First Presbyterian Church of Monterey, 501 El Dorado Street, Monterey, CA 93940.
