Married in Monterey in 1941 while he was stationed at Ft. Ord, they honeymooned at the Pine Inn in Carmel. Here again in 1959-60 while Reid attended the Language Institute at the Presidio of Monterey prior to a diplomatic posting in Belgrade, Yugoslavia, they purchased a home in Pebble Beach to which they returned in 1965 at retirement, and she called the Monterey Peninsula home for the next 47 years.
Fran was a goer. She loved playing tennis and was an avid bridge player playing with several different groups. A long-time member of the Beach and Tennis Club, she was still playing in the on-going weekly game she’d played in there since the late 1960’s. Among the organizations Fran supported and participated in included the Monterey Symphony (danced with the B-Sharp Follies, a fund raiser for the Symphony, in the 1980’s), Symphony Guild, History and Art Assoc., Monterey Peninsula Museum of Art (a volunteer there for over 20 years) and Jesters, Children’s Home Society-Punch & Judy Chapter, Peninsula Dance Quadrille, Hospice Foundation, Monterey Foundation. She also was a faithful supporter of our troops and veterans.
Pre-deceased by her husband of 50 years, Marion Reid, and brothers Harry Veddern and Earl Veddern, Fran is survived by her daughter Sherri Reid of Carmel, and sisters Muriel Radel and Lois Petronio of Cincinnati, Ohio, and many nieces and nephews.
