

CARMEL - Long-time Peninsula resident June A. Fernandez passed away on October 23rd, 2015 at Stanford Hospital after fighting prolonged complications arising from recent surgery. She was surrounded by her son Arturo James and her daughter-in-law Stefanie Fernandez.
June was born in Scotland in 1934 as the second of two children to Helen and James Allan and grew up in Glasgow during World War II. As a young child, June excelled at mathematics and the sciences. In her twenties, she left Scotland and moved to Ottawa, Canada in 1956 to work as a programmer with the Canadian Government for their Guided Missile Program. Two years later she immigrated to the United States and joined Stanford University Hospital in Palo Alto, CA as a pediatrics research chemist specializing in the treatment of preemies.
June married the love of her life Arturo Fernandez Ardon in 1969 in Menlo Park, CA. They lived in Atherton, CA for several years before moving to the Monterey Peninsula in the late 1970’s upon her husband’s retirement.
June loved the outdoors and was an avid skier, golfer, and enjoyed hiking and camping in her youth. She was an active member of the Beach and Tennis Club in Pebble Beach and played social and competitive tennis there for many years. A lifelong lover of music, June enjoyed playing the piano for friends and family at many parties over the years.
Mrs. Fernandez is preceded in death by her husband Arturo Fernandez Ardon and her stepdaughter Diana Fernandez. She is survived by her son Arturo James Fernandez of San Mateo, CA, her stepchildren Richard Fernandez of Lincoln Hills, CA, Robert Fernandez of Tucson, AZ, and Barbara Fernandez of Boise, ID
A mass in June’s memory will be held for friends and family at 11 AM on Saturday, November 14 at Saint Angela Merici Catholic Church in Pacific Grove. A reception for guests will be held following the service.
