Pebble Beach ~ June Thompson, whose life was filled with music, friends and family, passed away on her birthday as she turned 88. She fulfilled her wish to complete her days in her own home, surrounded by her loving family.
June grew up in Huntington Park, near Los Angeles. June was graced with a beautiful soprano voice and received exceptional training at Westminster Choir College in New Jersey. She was thrilled to sing with the famous Westminster Choir in Carnegie Hall in 1942. Her first position after graduation was Minister of Music in the Presbyterian Church in Redlands. She later attended the Stanford University Opera Workshop, acquiring skills for lyric theater and performing in ”The Marriage of Figaro”.
Soon after, June’s opera teacher introduced her to Stewart Thompson and they were happily married in June 1949. They lived in Los Gatos and Saratoga, raising three children, Wendy, Nancy and Jeff. They were very active in the LG First Presbyterian Church where June directed the children’s choirs and sang many solos. She was also devoted to her PEO Chapter LP and her many special friends.
In 1989, they moved to Pebble Beach, enjoying events at the Monterey Peninsula Country Club and June joined the PEO Chapter HT. They became active members of the First Presbyterian Church of Monterey. June was an avid reader and loved sharing treasured books with her Book Club. She and Stewart led wonderfully happy lives, loving the ocean, playing piano and celebrating life with their children and their spouses Steve, Carson and Toneh and precious grandchildren, Andy, Holly, Daniel, Steven, Sarah and Joshua. Stewart passed away in 2006. June continued with all her activities even as her health began to decline with walking being her greatest challenge. Her friends, children and caregivers gladly helped her with love and compassion,
June’s greatest gifts to all were her genuine kindness, graciousness and love of music. She will be sincerely missed by all. A celebration of June’s life was held on January 28, 2012 at 2:00 at the First Presbyterian Church of Monterey. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the LG Presbyterian Church or the Westminster Choir College at Ryder University online at http://alumni.rider.edu/wccgive or by phone 609-896-5392
