Linda Leckie Sinsar was born on April 18, 1952 in Detroit, MI, Linda April Leckie. She died peacefully at CHOMP hospital in Monterey, CA, on November 12 in the wee small hours with her husband, Paul, at her side. Linda had fought a courageous battle with ALS for over two years. Her brother, David, succumbed to the same condition in 2012.
Linda graduated from Wylie E. Groves High School in Birmingham, Michigan in 1970 and then from Vanderbilt University in 1974 with a degree in French and Business. She loved all things French and spent time in Ornons while in high school and then a year in Aix-en-Provence while at Vanderbilt.
After graduation she went to work at JP Morgan, formerly Morgan Guaranty Trust. Assigned to the Latin American territory , she spent the early part of her career dealing with clients in Mexico, then with the Central Bank Services group covering Latin America.
She met her husband Paul at Morgan in 1974 and they were married in New York on October 2, 1982.
Around 1988 she retired and moved, in 1990 with Paul, from New York City to Denver, CO where she became pregnant with Katherine. While mostly an unremarkable pregnancy, ten days before the due date Katie suffered a catastrophic birth accident that destroyed most of her neurological functions. But Linda, as with all things, faced the challenge of caring for a damaged child with strength and resolve. Katie died on September 9, 1992 at the age of seven months.
Katherine’s disabilities included blindness, and Linda and Paul had enrolled her in the Anchor Center for Blind Children. Subsequent to Katie’s death, Linda decided to use her considerable financial and legal skills to help put the Anchor Center on a solid fiscal footing, eventually becoming President.
A lover of music and passionate about opera, she joined the board of Opera Colorado and ended up serving as Treasurer.
Upon moving to California in 2013, she once again decided to ‘put back’ and joined the Finance Committee at Monterey Peninsula Country Club and eventually chaired the committee and served as Treasurer on the Board.
Her interests were myriad. She was not only an avid golfer but also had a passion for fly-fishing, skiing, biking and hiking. Linda also felt, perhaps, most at home in the kitchen, leaving her husband, Paul, with books upon books containing thousands of recipes. Her creations were always a Feast for the Eyes.
Linda faced many medical challenges over the years following her daughter, Katie’s, birth. But she always met them with grace and strength and optimism. She was, above all, other directed. Linda was interested in all things and all people. Her curiosity was boundless and she embraced all aspects of life with Joy.
She is survived by her husband, Paul, and a nephew, Alexander Leckie, who resides with his wife, Claire, in Marquette, MI.
