Nancy Lee Jewell

Corralitos ~ Nancy Lee (nee George) Jewell, a former resident of Pacific Grove, died Saturday, June 4 at home during her afternoon nap. Born February 25, 1940 at the US Naval Hospital, Mare Island, near Vallejo, CA, she grew up in the Los Gatos Mountains. Nancy moved with her family to Pacific Grove in 1951 and attended local schools. She returned to the Corralitos/Santa Cruz Mountain area with her husband, Patrick Jewell, in 1975.

While living on the Monterey Peninsula, Nancy was employed as a telephone operator for both the telephone company on Franklin St. in Monterey and Holman’s Department Store in Pacific Grove. She also worked as a waitress for Tom’s Café on Forest Ave. in Pacific Grove for many years after which she sold real estate.

Nancy enjoyed many things – music (particularly jazz), singing in a choir, reading, sewing, attending quilt shows, molding her mountain and spending time with her family and friends. She especially loved meeting monthly with her high school pals. Nancy was actively involved in her church, Watsonville Church of the Nazarene. She volunteered many hours over the years with her church, the food bank, Pink Ladies and the Corralitos Library.

Nancy is survived by her brothers and their families; Neal and Lynn George, Noel and Ariel of Lawrence, KS and Carlin and Marie Erickson, Nicole, Joshua, Melissa and Trisha of Seaside; her daughters, Margaret Bauer and Nanette Creson of Corralitos; her stepson, Ken Jewell of Corralitos; her grandsons, Ken, Christopher and Jacob as well as great-nieces and great-nephews, cousins and many wonderful friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Patrick Jewell in 1998; her mother, Mildred Erickson; her son, David Lee Luce; her daughter-in-law, Lori Jewell and her infant grandson, Zachary Bauer.

Memorial services will take place at the Watsonville Church of the Nazarene tomorrow, Thursday, June 9 at 2:00 PM followed by food and fellowship at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Corralitos Library, 127 Hames Rd., Corralitos, 95076 or the Watsonville Church of the Nazarene, 710 Green Valley Rd., Watsonville, 95076.
