With heavy hearts and deep gratitude for a life so beautifully lived, we share that Ninfa Mineo passed away peacefully at home on April 9, 2026 surrounded by the love of her family. She leaves behind a legacy rooted in unwavering faith, deep devotion to family, and a kindness that touched everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Ninfa was born on August 30, 1937, in Terrasini, Sicily, to her loving parents Filipina and Francesco Grillo. In 1946, as a young girl, she immigrated to the United States with her family aboard the SS Marine Angel, a courageous journey that marked the beginning of a new life filled with hope, opportunity, and promise. She embraced her new home wholeheartedly, attending Robert Down School, where she learned English. Then Junipero High School where she made lifelong friendships and eventually built a successful career at Wells Fargo Bank.
It was during her time at the bank that she met the love of her life, Dominic Mineo. He would often smile as he told the story of the day that changed everything, the day he finally gathered the courage to walk into the bank and asked out the tall beautiful Sicilian woman who had captured his heart.
They were married in 1961 and went on to share a deep and devoted love that spanned decades, until Dominic’s passing in 2020. Together, they built a life centered on their Catholic faith, Sicilian community, family values, culture, love and laughter. They raised a family of four children who were the pride and love of Ninfa’s life.
Ninfa was the heart of her family, a devoted mother, nana, sister, aunt, and friend. She found her greatest happiness in caring for other and bringing people together. She was truly special. Her home was a place where the door was always open, the table full, and everyone who entered felt like they belonged. Whether hosting holidays, sharing meals, or simply gathering for conversation, Ninfa created a loving space filled with warmth, laughter, and love.
Her catholic faith was a guiding light throughout her life. As an active member of San Carlos Cathedral and the Italian Catholic Federation, Ninfa formed lifelong friendships. Her generousness gave her time and energy in service to others. Her quiet strength, compassion, and joyful spirit left a lasting impression on her community.
She enjoyed life’s simple pleasures going to daily mass, playing cards with family and friends, and spending time surrounded by those she love most. Above all, it was her ability to make people feel seen, welcomed, and loved that defined her. That gift was truly her own.
Ninfa was preceded in death by her beloved husband Dominic Frank Mineo. Her parents, Filipina and Francesco Grillo, brother Dominic Grillo (Mitzie), Peter Grillo.
She is survived by her children; Maria Francesca Mineo Burns (John), Phyllis Mineo Aiello (Tony), Lisa Mineo Worthington (Joe), and Frank Dominic Mineo. Her cherished grandchildren Dominic Mineo, Anthony Aiello, Maria Aiello Van Duzer (Denton), Ryan Burns, her great granddaughter Brooke Stella Van Duzer, her sister Dora Incaviglia, and her many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
In a touching and meaningful coincidence, Ninfa and her sister in law Pat (Providence) Spadaro passed within a few hours of each other. Their reunion that surely brought comfort, as they were no doubt welcomed with open arms by Dominic at the gates of heaven.
Ninfa’s life was a beautiful reflection of faith, love, and generosity. Though she will be deeply missed, her spirit lives on in the countless lives she touched and in the love she so freely gave.
A Rosary and Funeral Service will begin at 9:30 am on Thursday, April 23 at San Carlos Cathedral.
