Born 12/26/1914 Passed 10/18/2012
Brother to: Gladys, Henry and Eugene
Norman spent his entire career with the United States Foreign Service joining after his service during WWII under The Marshall Plan and continuing with ICA and AID within The State Department.
He traveled to and lived in such places as Vietnam, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Brazil, Germany and virtually all throughout Europe, Northern Africa, including Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria as well as Somalia and many other places.
He was a member of The Hoover Commission during the 1950’s, and rubbed elbows with many Statesmen and Dignitaries such as Dean Rusk, Vernon Walters as well as many Ministers and Senior Government officials from many different countries. He even sat next to and dined with Vincent Astor while having dinner at the Captains Table during a Trans Atlantic crossing.
At 97 years old he even found the motivation to buy an IPad and to the very end he remained a flirt with the nurses. The day before he passed when he had lost almost all his speaking ability a young, cute Latina nurse was leaning over him adjusting his IV and he mumbled something to her which she didn’t understand and asked “What Mr. Olnick?” Then he struggled again and found the words to say to her “You’re a Cute Gal”…..That was classic Norman.
His family is grateful and thankful for his long and happy life and all the great things he did to make life good not just for his family but many..many others who were not family, He will be missed.
This Lion is already enjoying himself in the Great Wall Street Casino in the sky.
Go in Peace Dad.
