Samuel Kim’s life began in Honolulu Hawaii on May 17,1931 and came to an end in Louisville, Kentucky on November 13, 2021. While he attended John Hopkins University, life took him in a different direction in the world of food and he became a master chef and then moving on with his career as regional food operations manager for the Army and Air force Exchange Service. After the loss of his first wife, Sumiko, he retired and moved back to the place they called home in Pebble Beach, California.
Much of Samuel’s life was centered around his involvement with the Shriners. Being a shrine clown was his passion and he truly enjoyed making children and people smile. His goal was to make sure children with needs got the help through the Shriners hospital.
Samuel loved golf, fishing, hunting and traveling. He enjoyed entertaining, being around people and lived life to the fullest.
Samuel is survived by his daughter, Shireen Sumiko Kim Johnson (Jerry); his grandsons, Scott Samuel Johnson (Allison) and Jerry Dean Johnson II; granddaughter, Alexandria June Johnson Bushnell (Tyler); four great-grandchildren; his brother, Abraham and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his second wife, Else Elizabeth Lamontgne Kim.
A Graveside service will be held at El Carmelo Cemetery in Pacific Grove, California on November 30th at 11:00 AM.
In Lieu of flowers, Samuel’s family requests contributions be made to the Shriners Hospital for Northern California, 2425 Stockton Blvd., Sacramento, CA 95817.
