Susan was born in Cleveland, Ohio on November 23, 1936. She married William Broenkow on May 15, 1965 in Madison, Wisconsin. She attended Colorado College and graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Before devoting her time to raising her sons, Susan worked at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution and the Oceanography department at the University of Washington.
Susan was a founding member of the Monterey Peninsula Quilters Guild. Other organizations she contributed to include the Northern California Quilt Council, Gamma Phi Beta Sorority, PEO, Sunset Preschool, Evergreen Food Co-op, the Pacific Grove First Methodist Church, and the Monterey Methodist Church.
Her parents, Garrett and Helen Cooper, preceded Susan in death. She is survived by her husband, William Broenkow; sons, Kyle and Martin Broenkow, and sisters, Judy Cooper and Gail Buschke.
