He was born in Brooklyn, NY in 1932 to parents Jack & Rose Oken. At the age of 7, his family moved from NY to Palm Beach. It was here that Alan attended Palm Beach High, then went on to graduate from the University of Florida in 1954 where he was a member of the TEP fraternity. After serving in the Korean War, Alan returned home to Palm Beach to begin his career as a CPA.
He was a partner in his private accounting firm Ganz Brenner Kustig Oken Anderson & Baumhauer for over 30 years before joining and then ultimately retiring from Pricewaterhouse Coopers in 1997.
Alan was a golfer, avid traveler, and founding member of the Mayacoo Lakes Country Club in West Palm Beach. In later years, he and Diane loved spending time with "all the boys", two sons and two grandsons. Alan and Diane celebrated 42 years of marriage this July, and today we celebrate 89 years of a life well lived.
Alan is predeceased by his parents Jack and Rose, as well as his son Michael Oken. He is survived by his wife, Diane Shallowat-Oken, son Joe Pike and wife Teri, grandsons Tanner and Thomas, sister Barbara, and many more cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A private ceremony was held for immediate family at The Star of David Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations or contributions be made to the American Heart Association or the National Kidney Foundation in his honor.
