When Alan was in the 7th grade, he stole the hairbows of Daphné Jean Ervin. They began dating the following year and have been together ever since. They were married on January 15, 1972.
He began working at Houston Light and Power as a shop hand at age 17; he retired from there as a supervisor after 43 years faithful service.
Alan enjoyed outdoor activities. He was an avid fisherman and hunter; one of his favorite places to be was in the deer stand with his family and friends. He also enjoyed golf and liked to brag about the day that he got a hole in one. He played softball in his younger years; and enjoyed coaching when he was no longer able to play.
He loved all things Texas, like Whataburger and Blue Bell Ice Cream (only eating the Great Divide). He was an avid baseball fan, rooting for both the Astros and the Yankees.
Alan knew his way around the kitchen; he was well known for his award-winning chili and perfect pancakes.
Alan was a longtime, faithful member of Central Baptist Church. He served as a Sunday School Teacher for nearly 30 years. He also served as a Trustee of the church; and was ordained as a Deacon in 2018.
Alan is preceded in death by his Grandy Isadore Lee Stakes and his Nanny Evie Hornsby Stakes; as well as his father Malcom and his mother and Stepfather Josie and Roy Stubbs; and a baby brother Daryl Wayne Stubbs.
