Alta Ouida Marshall, née Lafitte, lived a full life of 89 years and 4 months. She was a tremendously fierce and loyal companion to her large family and to her friends. In fact, she never met a stranger that did not soon become a friend. She had a gift of always remembering those she met, and she had the generosity and thoughtfulness to pray for every family member and friend on a daily basis. Her “love for Jesus” and her sweet nature were her defining traits, and these traits were the first things that others noticed about her. She is now at the side of her earthly love, James Richard Marshall, husband, in heaven.
Alta was born in Logansport, the northwestern Louisiana town set at the border of Texas and famous as the point of origin for Toledo Bend Reservoir on the Sabine River. When she was young, she would help her dad set trout-lines on the Sabine River to catch catfish, perch, and any other “eatable critter.” Her childhood was filled with the many adventures that come with growing up in a small town during the Second World War and the boom-and-bust times that followed. She graduated from Logansport High School, and after marriage and the birth of her two children, she and James moved to Pasadena, Texas. There, they raised their family, attended church, and built a life rich in spirit, love, and sharing. She was married for 68 years, and along with her husband, were long-time members of First Baptist Church – Pasadena. The friends she made in their Sunday School class would become a cherished part of her family. Her gratefulness for the love, friendship, and support from her friends and neighbors over the years cannot be overstated.
“Ms. Alta” – as most people called her – spent her life walking alongside Jesus and reading His Word every single morning and praying daily for everyone she knew. Through the trials of life, she always praised His Holy Name and thanked Him for all the happiness she received and recognized that the learnings, trials, and experiences were used by Jesus to draw her closer to Him. She will be missed by all, but not forgotten.
A visitation for Alta will be held Saturday, July 20, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM with a Celebration of Alta's life beginning at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Pasadena, 7500 Fairmont Parkway, Pasadena, Texas 77505. Immediately following, she will be laid to rest at Grand View Memorial Park, 8501 Spencer Highway, Pasadena, Texas 77505.
