

Anita Hernandez passed away peacefully at the age of 94 on September 4, 2025. She was born on May 30, 1931 to Ysidro and Leonor Rodriguez. Anita is preceded in death by her husband, Johnny Hernandez, her sister, Elena Flores, and her daughter, Julie Ann Chapa. Anita is survived by her daughters, Viola J. Hernandez (Kenneth Robeson), and Christine Schoots (Harrie Schoots); her
grandchildren John M. Chapa (Angie R. Chapa), Lori Chapa, Christy M. Dodgin (Chris Dodgin), Geoffrey Griffin (Courtney Meyer Griffin), Jonathan Griffin (Shanna Breil), Marshall Griffin and Sasha Schoots. Anita is also survived by her 12 great grandchildren and numerous family members.
Anita was married to the love of her life, Johnny Hernandez on January 30, 1955 until his death in 2022. Johnny was a Marine. Throughout the years, their family lived on numerous military bases
and cities in California. While Johnny was deployed overseas, Anita and her children lived in Pasadena, Texas near their respective families.
Anita was born and raised in the Houston area. She was the eldest of three children and had fond memories of her large extended family which included her great grandparents, grandparents,
aunts, uncles and numerous cousins. Anita remembered going fishing with her father and learning to crochet, embroider and cook with her mother.
Anita's first job was with Kerr Steamship Co. which ran passenger and cargo ships. She was secretary and also performed translations for Spanish speaking clients. Anita loved music, especially from the 1940's era and began dancing at the age of five. She enjoyed gardening, observing the birds and squirrels from her window and greatly enjoyed watching John Wayne movies, period pieces, musicals and dance competitions. Anita also derived immense pleasure from the study of the Bible.
Anita was a devoted wife, mother and daughter. Anita left a void her family will not be able to fill but she left them with cherished memories that will support and uplift them through life. In the end,
Anita Hernandez leaves a legacy of love to her family and friends.
Visitation will be held on September 19, 2025, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Grand View Funeral Home, located at 8501 Spencer Highway, Pasadena, TX 77505. A Celebration of Anita's life will begin at 2:00 pm. Immediately following, she will be laid to rest at Grand View Memorial Park.
