Avis L English

She was born in Logansport, Louisiana on May 9, 1935 to Preston David and Manila Hilton Grantham. She was married to Billy James English for 43 years. Avis worked as a claims adjuster for Allstate Insurance for 24 years.

Avis was the 5th of six children in her family, growing up in the Bethel farming community near Logansport, Louisiana. After she married, they moved to the Pasadena area in 1957, where they raised their three children. She was involved in all of their activities, and lovingly supported and encouraged them.

She also loved her church, South Avenue Baptist, where she had been a member nearly 50 years. She was a choir member, served on numerous committees, and taught Sunday School in the preschool department for many years. She always looked for ways to help others in their time of need. She also loved her Lord and Savior, and was faithful in her prayer life and Bible reading.

She loved working in her yard, traveling with friends, mother-daughter weekend getaways, camping trips, and playing card games and dominoes. “Nana” loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and enjoyed spending time with them. She lived 25 years as a widow, and was a 3-time cancer survivor. We will miss her dearly, but we know that God’s promises are true, and we will meet again.

She was preceded in death by her husband Billy English and her daughter, Donna Cobb. and a Grandson; Randy Allen Wieting.

She is survived by her daughter Lisa Turner & her husband Jackie, her son Randy English & his wife Cinda, her son-in-law Gary Cobb; her grandsons Christopher Turner &his wife Heather, Keith Turner &his wife Monika, Camren Turner, Ross Cobb & his wife Allie, Ryan Cobb & his wife Martha, Jarrett English, Jeremy English, and Russell Wieting; her great-grandchildren Parker Turner, Kaitlyn & Kyler Turner,

llana Cobb, and Gordon & Louisa Cobb; her brother Joe Grantham, and numerous nieces and nephews

A visitation for Avis will be held Sunday, September 17, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Grand View Funeral Home, 8501 Spencer Highway, Pasadena, TX 77505. A funeral service will occur Monday, September 18, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, 8501 Spencer Highway, Pasadena, TX 77505. A graveside service will occur Monday, September 18, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM, 8501 Spencer Highway, Pasadena, TX 77505.
