Bettie LaJean Fleming of Deer Park went home to be with The LORD on Tuesday, March 15, 2022 after recent health issues. An only child, she was born October 23, 1930 in Marshall, Texas to Sidney Gerald and Opal Josephine Rood. She attended East End Elementary, Marshall Junior High, and was a 1947 graduate of Marshall High School. She was a proud Marshall Maverick who enjoyed attending class reunions to renew and continue lifelong friendships. It was during those early years she came to know The LORD and was baptized in the First Baptist Church in Marshall. Following high school, she attended business school in Longview and worked as a records clerk in Marshall at the Harrison County Courthouse. In 1955, she and her mother moved to Houston to join other family. She began a secretarial career at Diamond Alkali Chemical Company in Deer Park where she met the love of her life, Darrell Fleming. In June, 1959 they were married and purchased a home in Pasadena. In 1965, their only son Steven was born and she devoted herself as a wife, mother, daughter, and homemaker. She attended First Baptist Church Pasadena for many years and was a faithful member of The Way Followers Connection Group. She loved cooking, sewing, reading her Bible, genealogy research, and working in her yard. Widowed in 1999, she remained faithful to The LORD, her family, church and friends. She is survived by her son Steven and wife Rene’ of Deer Park and numerous cousins. She has many special friends at First Baptist especially in The Way Followers Connection Group. On Saturday, March 19, the family will receive visitors at 11:30 a.m. with funeral services at 12:30 p.m. in the Chapel at First Baptist Church Pasadena with Dr. Charles Redmond, Dr. Jon Redmond and Revered Roland Hill officiating. Burial will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Forest Park East Cemetery in Webster, Texas. In lieu of flowers, gifts of remembrance can be made to First Baptist Church. Thank you to the family and friends who have supported, encouraged, and prayed for her throughout the years and during her recent health issues.
