She was born October 8, 1929, in St. Louis, Missouri, to Hiram and Gladys Dotson. Betty met the love of her life, Harvey, while attending school in Belgrade, Missouri. They married shortly after high school on January 8, 1948, in Clay County, Arkansas. Together they had three children: Larry, Randall, and John. Betty considered it a great honor that they were charter members of South Main Baptist Church in Pasadena, Texas.
Betty was known throughout her community as a skilled seamstress, sewing everything from suits to wedding dresses. She enjoyed cooking for her family and taking care of her plants and flowers.
Travel was a favorite pastime for the family; many summers were spent on road trips exploring the greater United States. Betty was proud of the fact she visited 49 of the 50 states, missing only Alaska. Betty and Harvey were also avid cloggers and traveled the country participating in many square dancing and clogging events.
Betty was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Harvey, sons Larry and Randy, sister Thelma, and brother Bob. She is survived by son John and wife Elaine, grandchildren Josh and Courtney, brother Lilburn Dotson, great-niece Denise Lockhart, and Nancy Dolch, who Betty considered part of the family.
